About Me

I am an historian of science who writes books for a general audience. My current research interest is the history of climate science, with a focus on meteorology and oceanography in the 19th and 20th centuries. I am also interested in public histories of climate and the role of museums in climate and sustainability. I am currently completing a manuscript titled Water World: The Story of the Scientists Who Unravelled the Mysteries of Our Seas, Glaciers and Atmosphere–and Made the Planet Whole, forthcoming from University of Chicago Press and Scribe/UK in 2019.

I am  a Trustee of the Science Museum Group.
