About Me

I have an MPhil in Government and Public Administration from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and lived in Hong Kong for five years in the 1990s. I’m the author of BERNARDINE’S SHANGHAI SALON (Post Hill Press, 2023), WHEN FRIENDS COME FROM AFAR (University of Illinois Press, 2024), GOOD CHINESE WIFE (Sourcebooks, 2014) and the co-editor of HONG KONG NOIR (Akashic Books, 2018). I am a regular contributor to the Asian Review of Books, World Literature Today, and Cha: An Asian Literary Review. My writing has also appeared in Ms. Magazine, PopMatters, and the South China Morning Post.
