About Me

Dr. Shayne Leslie Figueroa is a food historian and earned her PhD in Food Studies from New York University. Her dissertation examined the social history of the school lunch program in New York City during the postwar period. Dr. Figueroa is an Administrator at NYU and adjunct teaches at NYU and The New School. In addition to school lunch history, she is currently conducting social history research on the organic agriculture movement, as well as the historic place of food in utopian communities.
