About Me

Jasmin C. Howard is a fifth year doctoral candidate in the Department of History at Michigan State University. She garnered a M.A. from The Ohio State University and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests include Black women’s history, student activism, Black women’s sexuality, queerness, resistance, the South, oral history, commemoration and media representation. Her current research focuses on the activism and resistance of Black college students in North Carolina during the Civil Rights Movement and Black Power Movement. Also, she served as a research assistant on the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project and worked on the #Blktwitterstorians DH project. She also has a forthcoming book chapter on racial violence, resistance and public memory in Montgomery County, Texas.
