About Me

I am Professor of German Cultural and Gender History at the University of Leeds, UK.  I work on the history of female activism, organised women’s movements especially around the period of the First World War. I also work on gendered resistance to war and peace history, including Conscientious Objectors in WWI and feminist pacifism.  I am interested in writing women back into the history of post-war revolution (1918-19), as it appears they have been consistently overlooked in many national contexts.  I enjoy working collaboratively within and beyond the academy and am currently working with creative and heritage partners on a project on German women revolutionaries in 1918.

I have written and presented my work internationally in English and German.
