Elizabeth LaCouture is the inaugural director of the new Gender Studies Programme at the University of Hong Kong and a historian of gender, race and everyday life in the Chinese world (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the diaspora). She is interested in a broad range of topics related to women, gender, sexuality, class, and race in China and Asia. She has lived and conducted research across East Asia in China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan, and has lived in Hong Kong since 2017.
