About Me

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for African Studies, University of Vienna (Austria). A passionate historian, I am currently working on the incredible lives of the first Kenyan women who campaigned for a parliamentary seat in the 1960s-1970s, a time that when politics remained an essentially male field.

Originally trained as a political scientist in Sciences Po Paris, I started specializing in African studies at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA) and completed my Ph.D. at the  Department of History and Civilization at the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). My first book, Power and the Presidency in Kenya: The Jomo Kenyatta Years (1958-1878) (Cambridge University Press, 2020). analyzes the making of Kenya’s first president, Jomo Kenyatta as well as the roots of presidential powers in postcolonial Kenya.
