I am author or editor of works of history including Taking the Wheel: Women and the Coming of the Motor Age; Seeing Nature Through Gender; Twenty Thousand Roads: Women, Movement and the West; Home Lands: How Women Made the West; Empire and Liberty: The Civil War and the West; and The Women Jefferson Loved. I served as Women of the West Chair at the Autry Museum and have curated two major exhibitions so far. I am also a novelist. I am a member and former Executive Board member of the Society of American Historians and presently serve on the Executive Board if the Organization of American Historians.
