- About Me
I completed my M.A. in history at the University of North Texas and I am currently doctoral candidate at the University of Mississippi working on a dissertation examining midwifery and childbearing in early modern Britain. My work shifts the focus of British history by focusing on Scotland as the center-point and comparing Scottish practices with those in England. Following the rise of the man-midwife, I consider how birth attendants negotiated and reshaped the gendered power structures that accompanied childbearing. In doing so I help to explain how birth shifted from social ritual to medical event.
