About Me

I hold a Phd in African History from Indiana University-Bloomington and I am currently a Lecturer in History and Anthropology at Butler University in Indianapolis. My work on the history of humanitarianism in Senegal focuses on charity and social assistance from the precolonial period into the twentieth century. I focus on the history of Islamic forms of giving in Senegal alongside French social welfare from Catholic missions, the Red Cross and the Colonial State.
