About Me

My work is becoming more eclectic all the time, but I’m essentially a social historian of Europe in general and England in particular.  My research has so far turned on eighteenth-century England and its “middling sort”, but I’m returning to earlier work on the English sixteenth century as well.  In addition, I’m currently developing an undergraduate course on the Viking Age, which is pulling me outside my comfort zone.  I teach at the University of New Brunswick and at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B., Canada.
