About Me

I’m a music historian specialising in the early twentieth century. I’m most interested in untold and forgotten histories, and specialise in music from Scandinavia.

I was selected as a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker in 2016 so regularly talk on the BBC about my research, and won the Observer/Anthony Burgess Prize for Arts Journalism 2015 for an article on the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. I have appeared on BBC Radio 3, Radio 4, and Radio Oxford, and have written for publications including the Observer and Huffington Post.

Currently I’m researching women composers in the early twentieth century, and music for Shakespeare plays in collaboration with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

More information about my work is available on my blog, and I also run a podcast on music history (notesonnotespodcast.com).
