About Me
I am a historian of modern South Asia with an interest in the relationship between law and religion. I completed my PhD in History and South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago and am currently a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. My current research  examines the transformation of Islamic law and legal practice in 19th- and 20th-century British India. I also teach courses on law and religion, Islamic law, and legal theories at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I am on the Board of Trustees of the American Institute of Pakistan Studies and have spent several years doing research and traveling in India, with extended periods of stay in Lucknow, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Jaipur.
