About Me

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Elena moved to South Bend, Indiana in 2008. She graduated in 2017 from Valparaiso University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music (violin performance). Some of her interests include popular music from the ’50s–’80s. In 2016, she presented her project on rock and roll’s impact in politics and society where she analyzed some pop and rock songs from the ’50–’70s at the Valparaiso University’s Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression. As part of her senior lecture-recital, she presented her research on Samuel Barber’s Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 14 where she focused on Barber’s American and European influences. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in musicology; her current research focuses on women in popular music, specifically the music of girl groups.
