About Me

I completed by dissertation, “Financing Revolution: Adriano Lemmi and the Struggle for Italian Unification,” and earned my Ph.D. at the University of Connecticut in 2021. My work explores the transnational networks of radical nationalists in the mid-nineteenth century and considers how the radical initiatives led by individuals such as Giuseppe Mazzini, Giuseppe Garibaldi, and Lajos Kossuth were paid for. To do this, I focus specifically on the activities of Adriano Lemmi, a wealthy Tuscan merchant who lived and worked throughout the Mediterranean and was at the center of these radical nationalist circles. This approach allows me to focus on the process of revolutionary activity, more so than the outcomes, and at the vast array of lesser-known individuals who support radical leadership. As an instructor, I teach broader courses on modern European history in a global context at both introductory and upper levels.
