About Me

I am doing a PhD in the project ‘Mixed Feelings. Literary Hispanophilia and Hispanophobia in England and the Netherlands in the early modern Period and the nineteenth century’, lead by Dr. Yolanda Rodriguez Perez. I am focusing on the representation of Spaniards and Spain in sixteenth century literature. I have studied the literary afterlife of the picaresque novel Lazarillo de Tormes (1554) in England and the Netherlands and am currently focusing on Hispanicized Englishmen and Dutchmen.

Other interests are gender, gender ambiguity, travel literature, translation studies, imagology, ‘Other’  and representations of people who did not fit to the norm in general.

I am also involved in a Dutch History blog Over de Muur (www.overdemuur.org) which tries to bridge the gap between society and the university by showing how history is still relevant today.
