- About Me
I hold a J.D.and Ph.D. from Harvard. My primary expertise is on legal and constitutional history of the eighteenth century. My first book was on slave patrols and the use of legal mechanisms for social, racial control in Virginia and the Carolinas. I also co-edited two volumes, one on historiography of American legal history and the other on southern legal history. I am finishing a new book on lawyers in the eighteenth century, and I’m in the middle of working on a co-written book about colonial courts and the early influence they had on the US Supreme Court.
