About Me

Samantha Sauer is a steward and storyteller. Sauer’s work as a public historian and educator is dedicated to enthusiastically balancing access and engagement with alongside collections care. Her background includes experience with museums, academic and public libraries, archives and special collections, arts and cultural heritage sites, and a science center. Her scholarship has been recognized and honored by state, regional, and national organizations, and she has published and presented to local and global audiences including the National Council for Public History, Association for State and Local History, Association of Academic Museums and Galleries, Society of American Archivists, and the Museum Education Roundtable. Sauer was named an “Emerging Innovator” at the 2014 Emerging Innovators Forum at the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) Annual Meeting, and in 2021 she was recognized with the Promising Leadership Award by the Association of Midwest Museums (AMM).

Sauer earned a B.A. in history with a film studies minor from Eastern Illinois University and studied history and media communications for a year at the University of South Wales (formally the University of Glamorgan). She earned a terminal graduate degree in Historical Administration, also from Eastern Illinois University, and she has been recognized as an Outstanding Young Alumna by the EIU Alumni Association. Sauer completed graduate coursework in Leadership Studies at the University of Southern Maine, and she earned a certificate from the Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC) Leadership Institute.
