About Me

As a long time public historian,  I have particular expertise in how to research preserve, and interpret the history of American women in an effort to tell the whole story. Have taught, written and organized in women’s history. My book Doing Women’s History in Public: A Handbook for Interpretation at Museums and Historic Sites has been published by Rowman  and Littlefield. It provides the rationale for women’s history and how to use traditional written, oral, and visual sources as well as architecture, landscapes, and object resources to understand and communicate women’s history. Have visited 324 national park units and dozens of museums and historic sites. Am part of the Maggie Walker Community which processed a collection of that amazing Black woman’s documents, and am an OAH Distinguished Lecturer.
