About Me

I am a Senior Lecturer in South Asian History at De Montfort University, UK. During 2016/17, I was Visiting Professor at the Centre for Governance and Policy at ITU, Lahore. My research interests include the history of the Punjab, the South Asian diaspora in Britain and women’s history in Pakistan. I work closely with oral histories and am particularly interested in social and cultural change. I am currently working on a monograph on the history of women in the formative years of Pakistan. My previous publications include Coming to Coventry: Stories from the South Asian Pioneers (The Herbert, 2006); Refugees and the End of Empire (co-edited with Panikos Panayi, Palgrave, 2011); and most recently, From the Ashes of 1947: Reimaging Punjab (CUP, 2018).
