Heather Carpini has a B.A. in History and an M.A. in Public History, with a concentration in Historic Preservation from the University of South Carolina. Since graduating with her Master’s degree, Ms. Carpini has worked in the Public History field, primarily as a private consultant.
She has experience working throughout the southeastern United States, as well as in her home state of Connecticut. She has worked in projects that range from small, intensive historic studies on particular buildings or communities to large architectural survey projects and in depth historical research to complement archaeological data recovery investigations. Notable projects have included a historic architecture survey of the Town of Windham, Connecticut; multiple documentation projects of historic dams, canals, and waterways, including the Saluda Hydroelectric Dam in South Carolina; and research and documentation of segregated architecture and public housing in Columbia, South Carolina.
Ms. Carpini also held the position of Historic Preservation Manager for the City of Independence, Missouri from 2012 to 2013 and has experience utilizing Historic Preservation tax incentives and other tax credits to support the economic revitalization of communities through historic preservation and restoration. She has a significant interest in working with local residents and communities in finding adaptive reuse options for historic structures and landscapes and telling the story of place and community memory through the built environment.
