Abby Armstrong Check received her PhD in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2026). She is a medievalist and art historian whose research centers on how objects, spaces, and images shaped urban identity in the medieval world and how that history continues to resonate today. Her work focuses on sculpture, sacred and civic architecture, and the material culture of medieval Jewish communities in France. Her interests also extend beyond the archive into public history and contemporary medievalism, especially medieval art and architecture in the Midwest region of the United States.
She is currently an Assistant Professor of Art History in the Critical Studies Department at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
