About Me

Sarah Perry is a PhD Candidate in the Department of History at McMaster University, specializing in environmental history. She has an MA in History and an Honours BA in History & Peace Studies. Her doctoral research examines how environment, race, and cultural identity shaped Newfoundland’s mining communities in late-19th to early-20th century Canada.

Sarah is also the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Written in the Waves, an online journal dedicated to spotlighting research on the Atlantic world, created by women. Established in 2026, WIW publishes work in the fields of history, anthropology, folklore, and multimedia, all situated within Atlantic regions.
