About Me

Malissa Smith is an author and women’s boxing historian, Smith has written two books: A History of Women’s Boxing (Rowman and Littlefield: 2014) and The Promise Of Women’s Boxing: A Momentous New Era for the Sweet Science (Rowman and Littlefield: 2024) with a foreword by two-time Olympic Gold Medal boxer, Claressa Shields. She received her Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies from SUNY Empire State University in 2012.

Smith’s duties in boxing include being a member of The Ring’s Women’s Boxing Panel, her work with the monthly WBC women’s boxing committee, and her role as both a member of the selection panel and an elector for the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

As a public speaker, Smith makes frequent appearances on podcasts, radio, and television programs espousing her support for women’s empowerment and women’s sports. She has also been a producer and  host of her own podcast, WAAR Room along with her partners, Chris Baldwin and Eddie Goldman.
