Having started as an art historian, I specialised in textiles several years ago and now combine both fields. My main areas of interest are the history of lace and whitework embroidery, with a focus on women’s history and gender studies. I believe that art produced with thread is no less significant than art produced with paint – it is just based on different means of expression.
My current research project at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg explores museum collecting strategies and the development of new lace types in the late nineteenth century:
