About Me

I studied History, Arabic, and Persian at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, where I also completed my Master’s degree. I then received my PhD in History from the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, with opportunities to be a visiting scholar at the University of Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before joining the University of York in 2022, I held research positions in Paris, Tashkent, Bonn, and Nanjing.

I teach history before 1600, with a focus on the Silk Roads and economic history, and my research centres on Asian interconnections. My first book, Qarakhanid Roads to China: A History of Sino-Turkic Relations (Leiden: Brill, 2022), explores cross-cultural contacts and international relations in the pre-Mongol era. Currently, I am also working on a project that examines trans-Asian caravan routes and trade networks connecting Moghulistan with Ming China, Timurid/Shaybanid Central Asia, and Mughal India.
