I am retired from the History Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign but still an adjunct in the Medieval Studies Program. These days, I mostly write fiction but I maintain my interest in studies about cultural exchange and trade as well as in book production, women’s education, and travel in the late medieval and early modern period. In addition, I have also done work in culinary history and the history of polar exploration.
