About Me

My research began with a focus on the social history of criminal justice in 19th century Britain and Ireland. Over time I focused more on changing attitudes towards crime and violence especially as it relates to gender. My third book was a comparative study of homicide trials in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

My most recent book examines the treatment of women charged with homicide in London between 1674 and 1913.

I have also published articles on rape and other forms of sexual violence.
