- About Me
My research focusses on grammar schools in England from the late fifteenth to the mid seventeenth centuries. I am interested in the purpose of grammar school education in this period, and how the humanist Latin curriculum was viewed compared to other types of knowledge, but even more than that, I am interested in who was establishing schools and why, who was teaching in them, and who was attending them.
An additional area of research concerns the modern-day Commonwealth, what it is and what it does, and what it definitely isn’t – there is considerable misinformation and misunderstanding about the Commonwealth’s purpose and I aim to clarify this to an audience of the general public. The same is true for the subject of the monarchy in the present day; I want to demystify the Crown’s role in both the UK and Canadian contexts.

I cover a number of subjects on my blog howitwasbecause.wordpress.com, including the Commonwealth, monarchy, and occasionally early modern grammar schools.
