- About Me
I am a PhD candidate at the University of Portsmouth, researching single women and beauty in Tudor England. My project examines the lives of elite never-married women between, drawing on sources such as letters, medical texts, portraits, and printed literature. I am particularly interested in how beauty shaped women’s opportunities and limitations, and how they expressed agency within these constraints.
By engaging with current theories of pretty privilege, my research highlights the long history of society’s tendency to reward or disadvantage women based on appearance, offering insights that continue to resonate in discussions of gender and beauty standards today.
