About Me

Twisha Singh holds a PhD from the Department of History and Classical Studies, McGill University, Montreal, Canada. Her research area includes South Asian History, Theatre and Performance Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies and her theoretical approaches include feminist and post-colonial literary theories.

She has previously presented papers and given talks on theatre, gender, sexuality, culture and South Asian history at University of Cambridge(UK), The British Library, (London, UK), University of Vienna, Christopher Newport University (Virginia, USA), University of Wisconsin(USA) University of Southampton (UK), University of Edinburgh (UK), Moscow State University (Russia) Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi, India) University College Dublin, (Ireland). She has been a part of a project on, “Modalities of Cultural Trauma” organized by University of Zagreb (Croatia).

Currently she is teaching feminist theories and history of South Asia at McGill and Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Her upcoming publication is entitled, “The ‘deviant’ performer: complicating the creative labour of early actresses in colonial Calcutta”, The Journal of Royal Asiatic Society, Cambridge University Press.
