Mary Adams Urashima is the historian and author of Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach (History Press) She chairs the national preservation effort to save the Japanese American goldfish farm and Japanese mission site known as Historic Wintersburg in Huntington Beach, California. She identified and named the rare century-old property in the former Wintersburg Village, which was listed as one of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places in 2014 and designated a National Treasure in 2015.
A former journalist, with thirty years in media, governmental and public affairs, her work encompasses local and regional governmental issues, environmental and land use projects, major infrastructure projects, and historic preservation. Mary has received recognition for her civic work from congressional representatives, state legislators and local government agencies. She has served as a political appointee in the areas of regional transportation, municipal redevelopment, infrastructure, human relations and historic preservation. Mary authors two local history blogs in Orange County, California, is a freelance writer. She continues researching and writing about Japanese pioneers, Japanese American settlement of the American West, World War II incarceration and civil liberties, and the cultural heritage contributions of Japanese Americans.
