About Me

I am a writer and historian, interested in the history of science and material culture, with BA and MS/MA degrees in history and anthropology and a PhD in history and philosophy of science from Arizona State University.  I am currently a visiting researcher at the Institute for Historical Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

I live in Austin where I enjoy rock climbing and mountain biking.

My writing has appeared in The AtlanticNautilusSlateHistory Today, Electric Literature, JSTOR Daily, Los Angeles Review of Books, TIME, as well as The Public Domain Review to name a few.

My books include: BookshelfSeven Skeletons: The Evolution of the World’s Most Famous Human Fossils; and The Last Lost World: Ice Ages, Human Origins, and the Invention of the Pleistocene (co-authored.)  I am currently writing Genuine Fakes: A Biography of Authenticity.
