About Me

Gabriëlle La Croix is a PhD fellow at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Her research is part of the ERC granted project In the Same Sea. Within the project she focusses on how slavery was maintained by island elite across the various islands of the Lesser Antilles. She is particularly interested in how networks of families, merchants and government officials in the Lesser Antilles functioned, and how they aided the maintenance and reform of slavery.

Gabriëlle holds a bachelor’s degree from University College Roosevelt and a master’s degree from the University of Sheffield. She has previous experience researching transatlantic slavery and has a broader research interest in early modern Caribbean networks, resistance and the experience of enslaved people, and privateering.
