About Me

I started out in pursuit of teaching writing at the college level for my lifelong career and, after a decade plus of doing just that, I discovered my calling was in writing about the history of horse racing. I have parlayed my experience both as a student and an instructor into authorship and research about the history of this sport, one which I have loved since my childhood. My goal now is to become a scholar of the Triple Crown, the greatest achievement in horse racing, and preserve the early history of that goal as it developed from an unnamed sequence of races into the central pursuit of many in the industry today.

Recent Publications

My forthcoming book, Sir Barton and the Making of the Triple Crown, is due May 2019 from the University Press of Kentucky.
