About Me

Author, speaker and historian, Pamela D. Toler translates history for a popular audience, going beyond the familiar boundaries of American history to tell stories from other parts of the world as well as history from the other side of the battlefield, the gender line, or the color bar.

Toler took the twenty-year plan for getting a PhD in history from the University of Chicago, in part because she kept wandering down fascinating by-ways. Officially her degree is in South Asian history, with strong sub-fields in European imperialism and Islam.  She feels strongly that the West in general and Americans in particular need to know more about the history of other parts of the world.
